Commemorative plates not a license to violate traffic rules, says DILG

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reminded motorists that commemorative plates do not excuse drivers from traffic rules and are not a replacement for regular vehicle plates.

In a statement on Friday, Dec. 23, the DILG reiterated Malacañang Memorandum Order 405, series of 1996, stating that commemorative plates must not cover or be placed over regular vehicle plates.

The statement was issued after the agency received reports on the wrong use of  commemorative plates.

The DILG said it has tapped the Philippine National Police- Highway Patrol Group  (PNP-HPG) to work with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to ensure strict motorists’ compliance with the regulation.
