ComVal to host International Day vs. Drug Abuse

DAVAO CITY–Compostela Valley will be hosting this year’s observance of “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” in Nabunturan town on June 26.

During the Friday’s Kapehan sa PIA, Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy said the province was chosen by the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) as the venue of the said event, as a showcase of the anti-illegal drugs campaign dubbed as “Oplan Liwanag.”

“This activity aims to raise awareness that our country joins the call all over the world that against illegal drugs and illicit human trafficking because these unfortunate a things are still happening,” Uy said.

Uy said the event will be joined by national officials led by Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Secretary Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go. Also expected to attend DDB chair Catalino Cuy, Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año and Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Oscar Albayalde.

Tuesday’s event will kick-off with a fun run and the awarding of pre-commemoration events such as poster making contest and song writing contest for the drug surrenderers as well as students, the governor said.

This year’s theme is “Listen First – Listening to the children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe.”

“Our target here is to inform the young people on the negative effects of illegal drugs because they are prone victims of this,” he said.
