Consumers warned vs expired ‘Noche Buena products’

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has warned cosumers to check the expiry dates of the commodities they buy, especially “Noche Buena products.”

DTI Provincial Director Maria Socorro Atay on Thursday issued the warning as the public are pre-occupied in buying Noche Buena products in time for the Christmas celebration.

Atay said it is to ensure that the food products they buy are still safe for consumption as some unscrupulous businessmen might take advantage of the Christmas rush by mixing up expired commodities.

She said expired Noche Buena products could be harmful especially to the children.

She urged consumers, if possible, to buy the Noche Buena products they need in reputed stores or supermarkets.

“The consumers have the right to information and the right to choose, but it would carry with it the responsibility to be critically aware of their own purchases and consumption,” she added.

Atay urged the consumers to report to her office any expired items being sold in food outlets and stores so that appropriate action can be done. (Teofilo Garcia, Jr/PNA)
