Cops hunt suspects in murder of lady jeweler in Maguindanao

COTABATO CITY — Police authorities have launched a manhunt against two men who shot dead a woman engaged in jewelry business in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

The Maguindanao Police Provincial Office headed by Senior Supt. Edwin Wagan said the attackers shot Mariam Acob of Barangay Poblacion, Mamasapano, at around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Acob was on board a motor cab heading home after a day’s work from Shariff Aguak town when two motorcycle-riding men overtook and flagged down the vehicle she was riding.

“Without provocation, the gunmen fired at Acob despite her appeal to the suspects not to harm her,” Wagan said, adding that nothing was taken by the attackers from the victim.

The unharmed motor cab driver and other village residents rushed Acob to the Maguindanao Provincial Hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.
