Cops to serve as BEIs in 1 Zambo barangay

ZAMBOANGA CITY–The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is set to deploy policemen to serve as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) in Barangay Busay, this city.

Barangay Busay, one of the four barangays in Sacol Island, located east of this city, has been identified by authorities as a “jump-off point” for lawless elements.

Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, told the Philippine News Agency Thursday that the decision to field police personnel in Busay instead of teachers was reached following imminent threats in the area.

Cañete said at least 12 policemen will serve as BEIs, while the remaining two will act as supervisor and support staff.

Barangay Busay has a total of 1,200 voters with four clustered precincts. (R. G. Antonet Go/PNA)
