Cops vow safety of 10K Caraga athletes

BUTUAN CITY—The Philippine National Police in Caraga Region (PNP-Caraga) said it has already established a security plan to ensure the safety of some 10,000 participants to the 21st Caraga Regional Athletic Meet (CRAM).

Senior Insp. Venus Cale, PNP-Caraga information officer, said the security guidelines and procedures have been passed down to local police units—as ordered by Chief Supt. Noli Romana, PNP-Caraga regional director.

Organizers said games will be held at the city’s sports complex in Brgy. Libertad from February 25 to March 2.
Athletes and coaching staff from 12 divisions will be billeted in 12 schools in the city, Cale said.

“The regional police are intensifying security measures to secure the participants and to immediately respond to any eventuality and also ensure that security personnel are adequate should threat groups may take advantage of the situation before, during and after the conduct of the sports activities,” the police officer said.

In addition, she said “overt and covert police operations will be conducted by the police to ensure the successful conduct of the sports event.” (Noel B. Najarro/PNA)
