Cordillera DRRM councils told to be on alert for TD ‘Kiko’

BAGUIO CITY – The Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils (DRRMC) in the province, municipalities and cities in the Cordillera region are advised to synchronize actions and be on alert as tropical depression “Kiko” accelerates its speed and strength.

In the latest advisory issued by the Regional DRRMC at noon Tuesday, it said “moderate to heavy rains is expected today over Northern Luzon. Residents in areas affected are advised to be alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.”

Typhoon Signal number 1 is still raised over Northern Cagayan, Babuyan group of islands and Batanes. Signal number 1 that was raised in the province of Apayao earlier today has been lifted.

However, with the continued rains being experienced in the Cordillera region for over a week now, the DRRMC maintains a Blue Alert status, advising all local DRRMCs to keep track of the situation in their respective areas.

Landslides and flashfloods frequently happen in different parts of the Cordillera due to the mountainous terrain and the presence of various major water systems that bloat due to the continuous rain. PNA
