COTABATO CITY — Pushing its corporate social responsibility to its clients, the Aboitiz-owned Cotabato Light and Power Company (Colight) donated an electric laboratory to Notre Dame Village High School (NDVHS) here Saturday.
This is the second electric laboratory that Colight has turned over to a public high school in its franchise area.
Through the years, Colight has been determined at providing assistance to schools within its franchise area that also include, aside from Cotabato City, the towns of Sultan Kudarat and Datu Odin Sinsuat, both in Maguindanao.
“It has been part of our company’s thrust to always give back to the community, a manifestation of our commitment to improve on the quality of education in the area,” said Anna Lea Nataño, the power firm’s Human Resources and Reputation Enhancement (HRRE) head.
The E.Lab, which is in support of the Department of Education’s K to 12 curriculum, is for the high school students who will be taking up the Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EIM) course.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority will then issue a National Certification (NC) 2 or Certificate of Competency to course passers, which can be used as credentials in applying for gainful employment after finishing senior high school.
Amounting to almost half a million pesos, the project includes 10 sets of training table and assessment facility, 50 armchairs, information wall and glass boards.
DepEd Division Superintendent Dr. Concepion Ferrer–Balawag said she was elated with Colight’s project that would benefit the poor but deserving students in the city.
“In years of being partner with Colight and Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., we are delighted and honored to accept the e.lab project,” Balawag said. “This is truly a legacy that will help the students and the next generation to come and I expect them to take full advantage of this laudable program.”
The symbolic key was handed over by Nataño to NDVHS Principal Vivencio Aniñon and Balawag together with the teachers, students, and barangay officials.
“The company will continue to hold on to its commitment and thrust as a dependable electric provider in the area and a partner in progress and in advancing business and communities that will create greater and meaningful impact,” Nataño said.
“We accept this treasure with a grateful heart for the development of the students. Through this electrical laboratory, we are very sure that the number of our students will increase in the EIM course,” Aniñon said in return during the turnover rites. (Noel Punzalan and Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
