Council authorizes Mayor Sara for P8.5M ‘Ompong’ aid

DAVAO CITY – The City Council on Tuesday authorized Mayor Sara Duterte to use PHP8.5 million from the city government’s Quick Response Fund as cash assistance to areas hit by Typhoon Ompong.

The City Council gave its nod after Mayor Sara requested for authority to use the money for assistance to local government units bearing Ompong’s brunt.

City Information Officer Jefry Tupas said the Quick Response Fund consists of 30 percent of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund, which is equivalent to five percent of the city government’s annual budget.

Tupas said the cash aid is separate from the food assistance earlier sent to calamity-stricken areas in Northern Luzon.

Of the amount, Tupas said, PHP500,000 will be given to Mayoyao, Ifugao, while the provinces of Cagayan Valley, Isabela, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Kalinga and Tuguegarao City will get PHP1 million each.

Tupas said these areas have been declared under state of calamity. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
