Councilor-elect, 6 others caught in Cavite drug bust

GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — A village councilor-elect here and six other drug suspects were arrested during a drug buy-bust operations on Wednesday by joint operatives of this city’s Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU).

Police Senior Supt. William Segun, provincial director of the Cavite Provincial Police Office, said Thursday that the anti-illegal drug operations rounded up the seven suspects, including a certain Ivan Charles Lucero, a newly-elected councilor of Barangay Arnaldo in the May 14 synchronized village polls.

Segun said that an undercover agent bought a sachet of dried marijuana from newly-identified street-level drug suspect Marnie Pulido Payno, 22.

The arrest of Payno also led to the arrest of councilor-elect Lucero; Jayson Lou Cerro of Barangay Navarro; and Bryan Fresa Cedeno of Barangay Arnaldo who were caught in possession of three heat-sealed plastic sachets of dried ‘marijuana’.

Supt. Paul Bometivo, officer-in-charge of the General Trias City Police Office, added that another suspect, Grace Delos Santos Gabrillo of Barangay Santiago, a newly-identified street level target, was also apprehended during the drug bust operation when she was caught in possession a heat-sealed plastic sachet of suspected shabu.

The drug agents also arrested in Barangay Santiago suspects Emerlita Rones, 45; and Arnel Iso, 38. They were caught with two heat-sealed plastic sachets of suspected shabu.

The seven suspects are now under custody of the city police as charges were filed for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. (Dennis Abrina/PNA)
