COVID-19 case rise seen in Metro Manila

An increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has been seen amid recommendations to place the region under modified general community quarantine.

Data from OCTA Research show that more than 500 daily cases have been reported in the past three days which is reportedly 45 percent higher than the numbers last week. The reproduction number of COVID-19 in the NCR also increased to 1.22. Pasay City has the highest increase with a 203-percent rise.

Meanwhile, the number of cases of the United Kingdom (UK) variant of COVID-19 has reached 62 in the Philippines after 18 additional cases were reported. Three more mutations of concern are also currently being monitored in Central Visayas.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas has until Friday to evaluate the effectiveness of measures in addressing and lowering the number of cases in Cebu. – Report from Mark Fetalco
