COVID-19 cases now at 11,086; recoveries near 2,000

The Department of Health (DOH) disclosed on Monday the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines climbed to 11,086 after 292 new confirmed cases were reported.

The recovery tally also reached 1,999 after 75 patients recovered while the death toll is now at 726 after seven patients succumbed to the disease.

There are currently 8,361 active cases.

Data from the DOH also show that as of May 10, a total of 1,991 healthcare workers have been infected by COVID-19 where 584 recovered and 34 died.

In line with measures to increase the country’s testing capacity, there are now 26 licensed laboratories that conduct RT-PCR COVID-19 tests.

As of May 10, 158,176 have been tested where 14, 981 turned out positive and 142,661 were negative.

Meanwhile, the DOH announced the new COVID-19 laboratory at the JB Lingad Memorial General Hospital in Pampanga has opened. This is funded by the Asian Development Bank. ADB Country Director Kelly Bird said the laboratory can conduct 3,000 tests daily. – Report from Mark Fetalco
