Crime rate in Luzon drops by 80 percent under ECQ

The crime rate in Luzon has dropped after President Rodrigo Duterte implemented the Enhanced Community Quarantine to prevent the spread of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a public briefing, Philippine National Police (PNP) Spokesperson Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac stated that the crime rate in Luzon has decreased by 80 percent with the help of other law enforcement agencies and Local Government Units (LGUs).

The PNP has reiterated that only essential movements will be permitted to pass through checkpoints while under the Enhanced Community Quarantine.

In burials and funerals, PNP Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Banac stated that wakes are temporarily not permitted. Only officiating priests, pastors, or ministers are allowed to attend besides the family.

The deceased in transit will be allowed passage through checkpoints since it is considered an emergency, as long as they have proper documents from the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is guarding the checkpoints in ports and waterways with the help of the PNP Maritime Group and the Philippine Navy.

Sea travels are also suspended under the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Luzon.

The PCG is also prepared to assist transporting health workers using their floating assets.
