Critically-endangered Philippine eagle found dead in Sarangani

A critically-endangered Philippine eagle was found dead Monday morning, Sept. 19, in Maasim, Sarangi Province, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Soccsksargen reported.

The Philippine eagle was found along the shoreline of Purok Maguid in Barangay Daliao.

DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) of Kiamba Forester Abdul D. Cariga said the dead eagle was found by government employee Habid Maguid.

According to the report, the eagle was believed to be four to five hours dead when it was found and its cause of death is yet to be determined.

No tag or chip were noticed in the raptor upon the inspection.

The eagle weighed 5.6 kilograms and had 102 centimeter (cm) length and 188 cm wingspan.

The carcass will be sent to the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao City for necropsy.
