‘Culture of security’ strengthens in Davao City

To maintain order and security in Davao City, a manifesto of support to the culture of security was signed on Wednesday (Sept. 1).

Members of the United Muslim Council for Peace and Development (UMCPD), Task Force Davao, Joint Task Force Haribon, and Davao City Police Office were present at the signing of the manifesto at the Task Force Davao Headquarters in Sta. Ana Wharf, Davao City.

Task Force Davao Commander Col. Darren Comia and UMCPD Chairman Pamikirel Latip Ayunandatu Arumpac, Jr., said the culture of security is still one of the city’s priorities amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the manifesto, voluntary inspection and reporting of suspicious activities and individuals will be conducted by the authorities.

“No backpack policy” inside churches and other places of worship will also continue to be implemented.

In a video message, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte thanked the UMCPD for supporting the programs of the local government for peace, order, and security in Davao City.

Last year, Duterte signed Executive Order No. 41 S. 2020, an order encouraging Davaoeños to adopt the culture of security as part of their way of life.

During the anniversary of the Davao Night Market bombing on Sept. 2, Duterte stressed in her Facebook post the importance of volunteering and participating in the fight against terrorism through reporting.

“Ang terorismo ay salot sa ating lipunan at patuloy ang ating kampanya dito sa siyudad ng Culture of Security sa lahat ng residente… Patuloy din ang ating kampanya sa pagpapa-alala na ‘Kapag May Nakita, Dapat Magsalita!’,” she said.

“Patuloy din ang ating dasal sa mapayapang pamamahinga ng mga namatay sa pagbomba,” she added.  Report from Julius Pacot (PTV Davao) / CF,AG – bny,rir
