The Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Tourism (DOT) were tapped to lead the Philippines’ preparations and participation at the Green Expo to be held in Yokohama, Japan in 2027.
This was formalized through the Administrative Order (AO) No. 41 issued by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Feb. 4, designating DA and DOT as chairperson and vice chairperson of the Philippine Organizing Committee (POC), respectively.
Under the AO, the chairperson of the committee is tasked to convene regular meetings to ensure proper coordination among concerned agencies and is required to submit quarterly reports to the President as well as a final report after the Expo.
The reports shall include expenses, income generated, accomplishments, economic impact, and policy recommendations.
The members of the POC include the heads of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions.
The Green Expo 2027 is an international horticultural exposition that will provide opportunities for participating countries to showcase their biodiversity, sustainable agricultural practices, innovations in high-value crops, agri-fishery products, green technologies, eco-tourism initiatives, and cultural heritage.
The President said the country’s participation in the Expo “aligns with the thrusts and commitments of the administration under the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028, particularly on the transformation of the agricultural and production sector toward sustainability and competitiveness, advancement of science and technology. and innovation for sustainable development.”
