DA-CAR raising money for families of deceased Kadiwa workers

The Department of Agriculture in the Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) is helping raise funds for the families of three persons who died in a road accident on Dec. 8 after conducting a Kadiwa market fair in Apayao province.

“Please send your donation to our staff in charge of the Kadiwa program, we are collating donations for the families,” said lawyer Jennilyn Dawayan, DA-CAR Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, in a post in a group chat of the Cordillera Association of Regional Executives (CARE).

The three victims from Benguet were identified as Karen Briones, a farmer-partner of Barangay Loacan Organic Farmers Association in Loacan, Itogon; Addison Kyle La-ao, a staff of the DA-CAR Agribusiness and Marketing Division (AMAD) from Puguis in La Trinidad; and the driver Tommy Timoteo from Dalupirip in Itogon.

An initial investigation by the Ramon municipal police station in Isabela province found the victims were aboard a DA-CAR Kadiwa marked wing van on their way back to Baguio City when a Toyota Vios smashed on the van which then hit a trailer truck.

The driver of the car escaped the crime scene but was arrested in a hot pursuit operation.

DA-CAR regional director Dr. Cameron Odsey said they are looking for ways to help the families of the victims considering their employment status with the agency.

La-ao and Timoteo are job-order employees of the DA. (PNA)
