DA eyes implementation of Luzon-wide price ceiling

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is looking into the possibility of implementing a Luzon-wide price ceiling for meat.

According to DA Undersecretary Ernesto Gonzales, they have received reports that traders have allegedly brought the meat from Mindanao to areas outside Metro Manila where the price cap is not implemented.

In response, USec. Gonzales disclosed that they have ordered their enforcement team to track the meat to its destination in slaughterhouses. The agriculture department has also asked the help of the Philippine National Police-Crime Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in the surveillance of the products.

The DA wants to ensure that the meat products from Mindanao will make its way to the National Capital Region (NCR) markets to sustain the supply in the region.
