DA helps rice farmers become agri-entrepreneurs

MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato, July 30 (PNA) — To push farmers in becoming agri-entrepreneurs, the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PRRI-Midsayap) spearheaded today a Farmers’ Field Day and Forum attended by farmers across the province of North Cotabato.

Engr. Milagros Casis, Department of Agriculture (DA-12) regional executive director, said the event provided an opportunity for rice farmers to “get out of the box” and become entrepreneurs to improve productivity.

Theme “Magsasaka Na, Negosyante Pa!” the event also gave farmers the chance to personally asked questions about the government programs to agriculture officials, led by Director Casis.

President to answer inquiries were Casis, Ommal H. Abdulkadil , PhilRice-Midsayap acting branch director and Dr. Sailila E. Abdula, PhilRice executive director.

After the program, a ceremonial harvest using state of the art postharvest facilities provided to farmers’ cooperative by DA, was conducted

Casis said PhilRice will facilitate farmers in directly linking their products to the local, regional and national market.
