DA: More imported rice in 2021

The Department of Agriculture (DA) disclosed that more imported rice will be coming to the Philippines in 2021.

DA Secretary William Dar stated that the importation aims to fill the lack of rice supply due to the damaged crops caused by the onslaught of the past typhoons. He pointed out that it is natural for a country to import rice if it is inadequate for the needs of the people.

The Agriculture Chief added that the rice sufficiency of the country is expected to decrease to 89% up to 90% due to the agricultural damage that reached ₱12.3 billion.
