Dagupan health office urges frequent cleanup drive

DAGUPAN CITY — The City Health Office (CHO) is encouraging barangay officials and all communities to clean up their surroundings to remove the breeding ground of mosquitoes after the recent flooding.

In an interview Tuesday, City Health Officer, Dr. Ophelia Rivera, said five barangays in this city are under watch due to the high incidence of dengue recorded last month.

“Barangays Bonuan Gueset, Bonuan Boquig, Pantal, Carael, and Calmay, were the top five barangays with 47, 31, 29, 26, and 24 cases, respectively,” she said.

Dagupan City has recorded 281 dengue cases in September, Rivera said.

She added that some areas in these barangays have stagnant water due to the recent flooding in the city caused by weather disturbances that were aggravated by the high tide.

“Of the 31 barangays in the city, only Barangay 1 has no single dengue case last month. This is because of the frequent clean-up drive the barangay council does,” she added.

Meanwhile, Rivera urged the public to proceed to the CHO and avail of larvicide, an insecticide commonly used for mosquitoes larvae.

“Communities with stagnant water in their areas may come to our office so that we could give them larvicide. But if stagnant waters could be removed, do not hesitate do to so. Always conduct clean-up drives in the area so that dengue-carrying mosquitoes could not breed,” she added. (Ahikam Pasion/PNA)
