Another popular Filipino food has been recognized internationally as our very own breakfast staple, daing na bangus swam its way through the list of the “Best Saltwater Fish Dishes in the World” by international food website TasteAtlas.
The traditional local dish landed at the 12th spot in the food encyclopedia’s current ranking, garnering a rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars as of Feb. 5.
TasteAtlas described the viand as a butterflied milkfish usually marinated with vinegar, garlic, and spices which is then pan-fried to highlight its crispiness.
“Daing na bangus can be enjoyed as a filling lunch or breakfast, and it is usually accompanied by garlic-fried rice, fried eggs, pickled vegetables, and spicy vinegar,” according to the online food tourism database.
Japanese dishes dominated the list as it claimed four of the top spots including three types of traditional nigiri sushi and tekkadon, a vinegar-flavored rice topped with pieces of raw tuna. – avds
