DASMARIǸAS CITY, Cavite – If you’re a registered voter of this city and you/your child are about to graduate with honors or distinction, or have topped, belong to the top 10 or passed the recent board/bar exams, chances are you qualify for cash rewards by the city government.
In its advisory on Monday, the Office of the City Administrator (OCA) is inviting those who qualified based on the criteria for the city’s “Gawad Karangalan” program to contact them for the award of excellence.
The “Gawad Karangalan” is the city government’s incentive program and advocacy towards recognizing academic excellence among the youth through the cash rewards, certificates and medals to graduates with honors in elementary and secondary levels and the tertiary and graduate/post-graduates with honors and board topnotchers and passers.
In elementary category, students with the highest honors will receive PHP 2,000 while those with high honors will get PHP 1,500 and all with honors will get PHP 1,000 plus the certificates of recognition and gold, silver and bronze medal based on scholastic performance, respectively.
In secondary level, the PHP 2,500 cash awaits the graduates with the highest honor; PHP 2,000 for “with high honors” and PHP 1,500 for “with honors” and the similar certificates and medals accordingly.
For college graduates with Latin honors, summa cum laude gets PHP 20,000; magna cum laude with PHP 15,000 and cum laude with PHP 10,000 while PHP 5,000 is awarded to graduates “with distinction.”
Each of these honorees will also receive a plaque.
The rewards also apply to those who furthered their studies with masteral degree with honors getting PHP 6,000; doctorate degree “with distinction” gets PHP10,000 and doctorate degree though without distinction also gets PHP 6,000 plus the corresponding plaques for each of the honorees.
Dasmareǹos who will top the bar/board exams (1st place) will get PHP 25,000 and a plaque; while those who will place 2nd to 5th gets PHP 20,000 and a plaque; 6th to 10th place with PHP 15,000 and a plaque, and board/bar passers gets PHP 2,000 each and a certificate.
If the awardee is below 18 years old, his/her parents must be registered voters of the city.
Documentary requirements for elementary, secondary, tertiary and post-graduate awardees include an application form (which can be reproduced and downloaded from www.facebook.com/barzagapidi), school card or any other evidence showing that he/she is an honor graduate such as the graduation invitation; and a list of honor graduates.
For bar/board placers/passers, aside from the application form, a photocopy of the certificate from the Supreme Court, the Professional Regulation Commission, or the Maritime Industry Authority, whichever applies, as to passing the bar/board or any other evidence proving such.
All documentary requirements should be submitted on/before 5:00 p.m. on April 15.
Formal awarding rites are slated on May 3 at Ugnayang La Salle Gymnasium where elementary, tertiary and post graduate honor graduates will be awarded at 8 a.m., while secondary and bar & board placers and passers is scheduled at 3 p.m. (Gladys Pino/PNA)
