Davao City cops round up 366 suspects for various offenses

DAVAO CITY — The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has arrested some 366 persons for various offenses during round-the-clock checkpoints and enforcement of laws here on Friday until Saturday.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-11 spokesperson, Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, said the city police office apprehended 209 persons in a 24-hour checkpoint, for violation of Republic Act 436 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

Police personnel also impounded two motorcycles.

In Oplan Sita and enforcement of local laws, Driz said 60 minors were rescued and 75 others were arrested for various offenses including drinking liquor in public places and smoking.

PRO-11 Director, Chief Supt Marcelo Morales, said the police will continue to intensify its anti-criminality and anti-terrorism operations to safeguard the public.

He said the anti-criminality efforts will also help build a sense of culture of peace, safety and security not only in Davao City and other cities, towns and provinces in the region.

Aside from the anti-criminality campaign, police operations against illegal drugs were also stepped up.

On Saturday, two drug suspects were arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by the Tagum police, in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), in Barangay East, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

The persons arrested were Daylinda, Canasa Calumpag, 47, married and a resident of Purok Rupenta 2, Barangay Magugpo East, Tagum City.

She was nabbed after a police undercover bought from her a one piece heat-sealed sachet containing suspected shabu.

Also arrested was the companion of Calumpang, identified as Joshua Perias Sabuero, 18, student, resident of Purok Mangga, Visayan Village, Tagum City.

Police confiscated two heat-sealed sachet containing suspected shabu from Sabuero’s possession.

Also taken from him were the buy-bust money, small sachet containing residue of suspected shabu, and one improvised tooter.

Morales said their arrest was a result of police collaboration with the community.
