Davao City office warns employees vs soliciting gifts

By Lilian Mellejor/PNA

DAVAO CITY – The City Environment and Natural Office (CENRO) on Thursday called on local business establishments and subdivision homeowners to report any of their employees soliciting gifts during the Christmas season.

Acting CENRO chief Marivic L. Reyes said their personnel–particularly garbage collectors and street sweepers–are prohibited from asking gifts for whatever reason.

Reyes warned that any personnel found violating the department’s rule on solicitation will be meted punishment or worse, arrested.

She said the advisory was issued to prevent CENRO employees from asking favors from business establishments or homeowners in areas they are assigned in.

Reyes said that in the past, CENRO personnel caught violating the rule were immediately terminated by the city government.

Garbage collectors and street sweepers make the largest number of the 12,000 job orders and contractual personnel in the city. The others are the traffic enforcers and those assigned at the Central 911, who work in three shifts.
