Davao police warns Dabawenyos vs. new scam

DAVAO CITY — The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Thursday warned Dabawenyos against entertaining persons posing as their relatives abroad, asking for financial assistance as this is a new money-making modus operandi.

Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum, City police chief, said the DCPO has been receiving complaints that some unscrupulous individuals are calling on people, claiming they are their relatives or friends abroad.

He said DCPO has already received similar complaints through the “Isumbong Mo kay CD” hotline number which has been set up by the DCPO for Dabawenyos to vent their complaints. The hotline number has been helpful for DCPO in terms of addressing issues on security incidents.

Tagum said this is the latest scam or modus operandi of unscrupulous individuals asking for money from unsuspecting victims.

“Suckers are born every minute. Do not be one by double checking all the information that you received,” Tagum reminded Dabawenyos.
