DAVAO CITY – The Davao Oriental government continues to upgrade its health services with the latest acquisition of a CT Scan for the Davao Oriental Provincial Medical Center.
The new equipment is part of the government’s goal of improving healthcare services, especially for indigent patients.
Provincial Information Officer Karen Lou Deloso said the equipment was funded by the Department of Health (DOH) through its Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP).
Deloso said the CT scan, which costs PHP23 million, was among the new set of equipment acquired by the province.
The other two equipment are the ultrasound machine and stationary x-ray machine which will be delivered soon.
According to Deloso, the CT scan is one of the “highly sought-after” diagnostic services acquired by the provincial government.
Among the common cases needing diagnostic service are stroke and injuries resulting from trauma, among others.
Meanwhile, Dayanghirang thanked the DoH for the equipment which would benefit indigent patients who could not afford to undergo a CT scan test.
Dayanghirang also assured that medical doctors will be properly guided on how to manage patients and when to refer them to prevent unnecessary transport of patients to big hospitals in other cities.
The CT scan is now fully operational with specially trained radiologists, doctors who read and interpret results; radiology technologist; and CT a scan nurse, all of whom are all fully equipped to handle the equipment and patients under their care.
Deloso said the hospital management would also be preparing a set of prices for CT scan test and this would be submitted to the Sangguniang Panlalalwigan for approval.
This will be reviewed and will be further subjected to a public hearing.
Meanwhile, Deloso said the province remains committed to improve the operation of Davao Oriental’s biggest health facility.
Aside from acquiring new medical equipment and capability building of staff, the province is expediting the completion of a new three-story building which will house private rooms, a chapel, a surgical wing including a surgical ICU and a pediatric ward. (Lilian Mellejor/PNA)
