BAYAMBANG, Pangasinan — The Pangasinan Provincial Health Office (PHO) recorded 1,083 dengue cases in the province from Jan.1- to April 29 this year, 9 percent lower than 1,188 cases on the same period last year.

Provincial health officer, Dr. Anna Teresa De Guzman, in a phone interview Monday, said even mortality rate decreased with one in Villasis town this year as compared to last year’s six mortalities.

Eleven towns and cities are under close monitoring of PHO due to high number of dengue cases, she said.

“These are Bayambang (120), Urdaneta City (69), Pozorrubio (63), Lingayen (59), Malasiqui (57), Dagupan City (53), San Carlos City (49), Bani (41), Calasiao (38), Binmaley (33), and Alaminos City (30),” de Guzman disclosed.

The youngest victim of dengue in the province is two months old, while the oldest is an 84-year old female.

DOH Region 1 Director Valeriano Lopez, in recent interview, said dengue is still prevalent during summer since many people gather water in containers due to low supply.

The containers with water could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes, he said.

DOH continues to advise the public to keep surroundings clean to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
