DENR eyes another Manila Bay rehab partnership

MANILA — The government is set to seal another partnership for the rehabilitation of Manila Bay.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with integrated property developer SM Prime Holdings (SMPH), Inc. on Tuesday.

The MOU signing in Quezon City will formalize SMPH’s adoption of the Parañaque River and Estero de Tripa de Gallina, both polluted waterways south of Manila.

The two waterways are among those that will be cleaned up with the help of partners.

Cleaning up waterways that are either directly or indirectly draining into Manila Bay, relocating informal settlers and educating the public on solid waste management and other environmental matters are the major activities for Manila Bay’s rehabilitation.

Earlier, San Miguel Corp. committed to joining Manila Bay’s rehabilitation by helping clean up the Tullahan River, one of Manila Bay’s major tributaries.
