DepEd 6 gears for 2018 Brigada Eskwela

ILOILO CITY — The Department of Education (DepEd) is preparing series of activities for the annual school maintenance week or known as the “Brigada Eskwela” slated May 28 to June 2.

Dr. Lea Belleza, DepEd 6 information officer, said the maintenance week will gather education stakeholders to conduct beautification, repair and maintenance among others depending on the capacity of the school and the participating community.

“This is to bring all educational stakeholders together to share their time, effort, and their resources in order to make our schools ready for the opening of classes on June 4, 2018,” Belleza said.

“We would like to invite all the education stakeholders and to everyone who believes in, who cares for our learners to join us. DepEd can only do so much. Join us and help us beautify our schools, make it safe, clean orderly and of course ready for the opening of classes,” she said.

On May 25, however, the DepEd family will gather in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental for the regional kickoff of the Brigada. It will also gather participants such as the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and barangay officials, among others.

This year’s maintenance activity anchors on the theme “Pagkakaisa para sa Handa, Ligtas at Matatag na Paaralan tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan”.

Meantime, Belleza said that as early as February, they are already preparing for the opening of classes in June. She cited that the early registration was conducted in February.

She added that they also have a mapping of possible students, especially in far-flung areas, so they would know how many learners are still not enrolled.

Meantime, DepEd will launch this week its public affairs command center to address issues, concerns and queries of the stakeholders,  especially educational stakeholders about the opening of classes.

The center will likewise open a hotline number (033)336-2816 for those who could not personally visit the center.

The regional office gathered information officers of cities and division offices for a briefing on Oplan: Balik Eskwela as stipulated in DepEd Memorandum Number 50

Belleza said the meeting was called to orient officers about the policies, guidelines and issues regarding the opening of the classes for kindergarten, elementary, junior high school and senior high school.  (Jessa Mae Padilla and Marvin Mongao/PNA)
