MANILA — The Department of Education (DepEd) has welcomed the bicameral report of the legislature on the proposed 2019 national budget and looks forward to its approval by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

In a statement on Saturday, DepEd said one of the significant provisions which the agency pushed is the PHP800 million for teachers’ allowance to be distributed on World Teachers’ Day.

“The department negotiated for the allocation as a simple yet necessary expression of gratitude for our teachers’ hard work and contributions to nation-building. The leadership of DepEd remains committed to continuously expanding the scope of employee welfare, empowering teachers through sustained personal and professional development, and improving their working conditions through thorough review and simplification of systems and processes,” the statement read.

DepEd added that the national budget’s ratification enables the agency to implement programs and reforms that would ensure quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating basic education for all Filipinos.
