The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday welcomed the Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) resolution allowing the hiring of junior and senior high school graduates in first-level positions in the government.
In a statement, DepEd Sec. Sonny Angara said this is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to broaden job opportunities for graduates.
The CSC promulgated Resolution No. 2500229 on March 6, formally recognizing Grade 10 and Grade 12 graduates under the K-12 curriculum as eligible for first-level government positions, which typically involve clerical, trade, craft, custodial, or other sub-professional work.
However, the CSC stressed that applicants must meet qualification requirements, including relevant training, experience, and eligibility for purposes of appointment to said positions.
“For years, our SHS students have been trained to be work-ready, but policy gaps kept them from entering the public sector. This reform finally bridges that divide,” Angara said, noting that the CSC resolution will be beneficial to graduates under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood track.
“We thank the CSC for this landmark decision. It not only opens new doors for our learners but also boosts the government’s talent pool with fresh, young professionals trained under our K–12 system,” the Education chief added.
