DepEd strongly condemns attack on Davao del Sur students

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday strongly condemned the ambush of unidentified gunmen at Kimlawis National High School in Davao del Sur which resulted to the death of the student Jimbo Lingkanay and injuries of five others.

According to DepEd’s statement, “The department remains firm in denouncing all forms of violence, threats, and attacks against its students, teachers, officials, and personnel. It further reiterates its call for constant vigilance and the protection of their safety and well-being inside and outside of school.”

DepEd offered its sincerest condolences to Lingkanay family, and enjoined everyone to pray for the speedy recovery of the injured students.

“We further support the ongoing investigations to identify the perpetrators, determine the motive, and let true and lasting justice prevail. As always, DepEd decrees the preservation of peace and order in the schools and the communities,” DepEd added.

The incident started when Lingkanay, together with the other students, were returning home onboard in a truck after attending a local festival at the municipal gymnasium last October 29, when suddenly waylaid by an undetermined number of armed men.
