DepEd warns teachers, non-teaching staff vs electioneering

By Gabriela Baron

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday, May 2, warned teachers and non-teaching staff against electioneering and engaging in partisan political activities in relation to next week’s polls.

In a statement, DepEd reminded anew teachers and non-teaching staff about the prohibition of government officials and personnel from engaging in political partisan-related activities, citing the rules of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“We call on our DepEd officials and personnel to uphold political neutrality in the government service and maintain professionalism in the discharge of duties,” DepEd said.

“Failure of any DepEd official or personnel to comply with the existing rules and regulations of DepEd, Comelec, and CSC shall be subjected to the necessary administrative actions,” it added.

The DepEd Election Task Force, headed by Undersecretary Alain Del Pascua, has been visiting across all regions and divisions to conduct briefings for teachers and personnel to remind them against electioneering and partisan politics. – ag
