Detour bridge in Nueva Ecija reinforced as classes open

By Marilyn Galang/Philippine News Agency

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has reinforced a detour road in a major thoroughfare at the boundary of Cabanatuan City and Palayan City this province, in an effort to arrest feared clogging especially during the start of classes.

Engineer Ricardo Puno, chief of the Nueva Ecija Second Engineering District, said on Sunday the detour was widened and made two-way and more compacted to ease traffic and ensure the safety of motorists.

Puno said Third District Representative Rosanna Vergara has sent some of her own heavy equipment to hasten the widening of the detour.

The detour serves as an alternate route for the ongoing rehabilitation of the 68-year-old Cabu bridge along Nueva Ecija-Aurora road.

It has been washed out several times due to rains in the past few days.

Cabu bridge links Palayan City and the municipalities of Laur, Gabaldon, Bongabon, General Natividad of Nueva Ecija and Dingalan, Aurora to this city, host of various state and private schools and universities.

The bridge is expected to open in the first week of July.
