PASAY CITY 06 August 2020 — The Department of Foreign Affairs, through the Philippine Embassy in Beirut, confirms that all 13 Filipino seafarers are safe and accounted for.

“Our Embassy in Beirut has ascertained the conditions of all the 13 Filipino seafarers who were injured in the blasts that rocked the city recently,” confirms Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs Sarah Lou Y. Arriola. Eleven of the 13 seafarers were earlier reported missing following the blasts.

Philippine Embassy Beirut Charge d’affaires Ajeet Panemanglor earlier visited eight of the seafarers staying at the company accommodations.

Five of the seafarers were at the hospital for another medical checkup when Philippine Embassy officials arrived yesterday. Another visit is scheduled today to meet the remaining mariners.

The Filipino seafarers are cruise members of the significantly damaged cruise ship Orient Queen, which was reported docked in the port of Beirut.
