DFA: No reports of Filipinos among casualties of Typhoon Hato in Hongkong and Macau

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano on Thursday offered sympathies to those who lost loved ones or were severely affected by Typhoon Isang (international name: Hato), which battered Hong Kong and Macau.

“We are saddened by reports of the destructive effects of Typhoon Hato on Hong Kong and Macau,” Secretary Cayetano said in a statement released by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

“We send condolences to the families of the three who lost their life and messages of suport for the injured,” Secretary Cayetano said as he offered a prayer for the victims and those affected by the typhoon.

Initial reports from Consul General Lilibeth Deapera of the Philippine Consulate in Macau and Deputy Consul General Roderico Atienza of the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong and indicate that there are no Filipino nationals among the six casualties or forty injured by the typhoon.

This is the first time since 2012 that the Hong Kong Observatory raised storm signal number 10 over the Special Administrative Region, and only the third time this highest alert was issued since 1997.

There are more than 211,000 Filipinos in Hong Kong and almost 30,000 in Macau.

The Consulates General are continuously monitoring the situation and are ready to provide all possible consular assistance to any Filipino who may be affected. ### | DFA-PR
