The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) warned the public against scammers who are taking advantage of the pandemic.
The DFA issued a warning after receiving reports of several individuals offering fake travel exemption letters to foreigners who want to enter the Philippines in exchange for a large sum of money.
According to Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs Neil Frank Ferrer, the DFA is not asking for any travel exemption fee in accordance with the protocol laid out by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and the Office of the President.
The Foreign Affairs department also warned against a scam in social media where individuals are asking for money in exchange for a passport appointment. The department clarified that the embassies and consulates are not charging appointment fees for their consular and passport services. – PTV News
