DICT cascades ASEAN ICT Masterplan 2020 to Regional Hubs

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), as national focal point for ASEAN IT/Telecommunications sector, actively promotes the adoption of ASEAN ICT Masterplan (AIM) 2020 initiatives.

A regional forum was organized to set the stage towards embracing ICT as a driver for innovation, engaging local stakeholders in the Philippines’ major island groups, Luzon (Legazpi, July 12, 2017), Visayas (Cebu, April 26, 2017) and Mindanao (Davao, September 29, 2017). Through this approach, AIM 2020 envisions to answer to a highly evolved industry and ICT usage in ASEAN, insofar as ICT development must be continuously pushed across different nations and cultures.

AIM 2020 encompasses eight (8) interconnected Strategic Thrusts that support the overarching vision to propel ASEAN towards a digitally-enabled economy that is secure, sustainable, and transformative, as well as to enable an innovative, inclusive and integrated ASEAN Community.

The eight strategic thrusts are: Economic Development and Transformation, People Integration and Empowerment through ICT, Innovation, ICT Infrastructure Development, Human Capital Development, ICT in the Single Market, New Media and Content, and Information Security and Assurance.

Central to this, the DICT sets the country’s direction towards ASEAN economic integration, reaping the economic rewards brought about by ICT-enabled services.

Transactions in this digital economy teach us that data is the new currency. Learning to embrace this evolution and harnessing ICT innovation are poised to lead the overall improvement of e-governance. (DICT)
