DICT conducts Digital TV Awareness for schools, universities in Metro Manila

In the Philippines, migration to Digital Terrestrial TV Broadcasting has been in full swing ever since the Ceremonial Digital Switch-On (DSO) was held last February 14, 2017 on the occasion of the Digital TV Summit 2017 led by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

With the upcoming unveiling of the DTTB Migration Plan, the country has begun its comprehensive nationwide implementation of the Integrated Services Digital Terrestrial – Broadcast (ISDB-T) as the country’s sole digital broadcast standard.

A number of receivers including digital TV sets, One-Seg handsets and Set-Top Boxes (STBs) are already available in the market. However, the benefits of proper installation of antennas, interactive features and enhanced picture quality to reap the advantages of digital TV are yet to be fully communicated to the viewers.

The DICT embarks on engaging the academe to further the word on the country’s move towards digital broadcasting. First of its series of awareness campaigns was the Digital TV Awareness Seminar, held in partnership with the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP) at the Jose Rizal University, Mandaluyong City, last 02 September 2017. The seminar was  attended by 200 representatives from 14 different colleges in Metro Manila.

Engr. George P. Tardio, Chief of the National ICT Planning Division of the DICT, discussed the framework of the Philippine Migration to Digital TV Broadcast Service, including the global trends in broadcasting. He also touched upon the issues on DTTB Migration and the timeline of its implementation.

Following this, the DICT will also be conducting capacity-building programs and awareness campaigns for engineering students from Rizal Technological University (RTU) and University of the East – Caloocan (UE – C). (DICT)
