DICT, NTC welcome Starlink for better PH internet coverage

By Myris Lee

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), an attached agency of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), welcomed Starlink in the country as it expands its internet services.

World’s richest man and business magnate Elon Musk’s Starlink claims to offer up to 200 Mbps broadband speed in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas, or areas which are difficult to reach via fiber connection.

“The DICT will continue to find ways to make the accreditation process faster, more convenient, and will provide policy support to companies like Starlink. I urge you to intensify your corporate presence in the country,” DICT Acting Secretary Manny Caintic said.

The DICT has made the accreditation process for tech providers more convenient than before to encourage them to invest in the country.

“The DICT will continue to find ways to make the accreditation process faster, more convenient, and will provide policy support to companies like Starlink. I urge you to intensify your corporate presence in the country,” Caintic said.

The Philippines is set to be the first country in Southeast Asia to avail the Internet services of Starlink.  – ag
