Differently-abled teacher inspires students

The teaching profession is a difficult vocation to fulfill. Teachers are responsible not only in helping children learn how to read, write, count, and many more. They also act as second parents to students. Ma’am Leah Garcia, one of the teachers at the NOH School for Crippled Children in Quezon City, have been carrying out these tasks for 14 years now despite her inability to walk since she was afflicted by the polio virus at age 2. However, her disability does not hinder her resolve to teach mentally-challenged learners as she aspires to be a good example to differently-abled individuals like her to have the courage and confidence to face life’s challenges. Being an inspiration to others and helping her students tap their potential bings her so much joy. Education Secretary Leonor Briones honors the likes of Maám Leah and all teachers who are “unwavering (in their) commitment and dedication in raising and nurturing 21st century, humane and lifelong learners… heading closer and closer to our goal of delivering quality, accessible, relevant and liberating basic education.”
