DILG directs ex-village chiefs to liquidate cash advances

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental — The Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) office here has directed outgoing barangay captains, including those who lost in their reelection bid last May 14, to fast-track the liquidation of cash advances and disbursements so they can be cleared by the Commission on Audit (COA).

A transition team has been organized at the barangay level and the city to supervise the ongoing inventory of assets and properties of the barangays and other accountabilities, local government operations officer Aquilina Eltanal said on Wednesday.

She said these properties include donations officially received by the barangays, such as radio handsets, appliances and other equipment.

Eltanal noted that failure to liquidate these properties will result in the institution of appropriate administrative proceedings.

She further said punong barangays (village chairpersons) need to declare properties of their barangays that are already unserviceable.

All assets of the barangays shall have been turned over to the newly-elected village chief before June 30, she said.

Eltanal also asked outgoing barangay captains to coordinate with the bookkeepers of the barangay affairs office for the liquidation of disbursements. (Juancho Gallarde/PNA)
