By NG Seruela

The Department of National Defense (DND) ordered the Government Arsenal (GA) in Limay, Bataan to conduct a “thorough review of the safety and protective measures implemented in the manufacturing facilities,” following the explosion there on Wednesday (May 26) that left two dead and two injured.

In a statement on Thursday (May 27), Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana directed the review of the safety measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.

“The GA shall also ensure that appropriate assistance and attention are extended to the families of the personnel who died in the line of duty,” the statement added.

Lorenzana expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.

According to the incident report, Ricardo Solomon and Marvin Tatel were in a separate room handling a mixture of explosive chemicals used to make bullet primers when it exploded for an unknown cause, leading to their deaths.

Macreldo Rodriguez and Allan Wisco, who were also on duty at the time of the explosion, were injured. The incident happened at Building 27 (Mixing Composition) inside the DND Arsenal. -jlo
