DOE questions MERALCO’s P47 online fee

The Department of Energy (DOE) is asking MERALCO to explain the PhP 47 charge to consumers paying online.

The letter of DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi sent to MERALCO President Ray Espinosa points out that the charges to consumer will just increase because of the PhP 47 online fee. This contradicts the government’s objective to reduce the expenses in utilities in this time of crisis.

MERALCO initially explained that the online fee will go to their app service provider.

However, DOE Sec. Cusi reminds that the electric company must acquire government’s approval before doing so.
