DOF exec: Gov’t not to implement new, higher taxes until end of PRRD’s term

The national government will not implement new and higher taxes for the rest of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s term.

Department of Finance (DOF) Undersecretary Gil Beltran said on Tuesday (June 15) that they will leave the implementation of new taxes to the next elected president while the country is recovering from the recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added in the Economic Journalists’ Association of the Philippines’  (EJAP) midyear forum that similar to the previous administration, they have listed possible tax measures for the next administration’s consideration. 

Beltran has not identified any particular revenue measures, but one of their suggestions is to tax the “untaxed sectors,” such as digital transactions.

President Duterte’s term is set to end on June 30, 2022.
