DOH-7 targets 30-K jabs a day; increases bed capacity to 30%

The Department of Health-Region 7 (DOH-7) aims to administer COVID-19 vaccine to 30,000 individuals per day in Metro Cebu.

In Cebu City alone, the health department aims to vaccinate at least 11,000 individuals daily to reach the targeted one million vaccinees by November this year.

“Kailangan po natin ng 2,992,491 doses so that we can be able to finish by November our vaccination for all the Metro Cebu,” DOH-7 chief pathologist Dr. Mary Jean Loreche said in a public briefing on Monday (July 19).

According to the latest regional vaccination rollout report, more than 500,000 individuals were vaccinated in Cebu.

Of this, 387,000 were first dose recipients, while 149,000 individuals have completed their vaccination.

“Kailangan nating maagapan at maunahan itong mga variants of concerns bago pa tayo magka-problema. Tandaan po natin na we are racing against time, so as long as the vaccines are there, huwag na po kayong mag-atubili at huwag na po kayong mag-balewala,” Loreche said.

COVID-19 response

The local government of Central Visayas is set to impose guidelines to prevent an overwhelming healthcare system in the event of a COVID-19 surge in the region.

DOH-7 Director Jaime Bernadas said temporary treatment and monitoring facilities in Cebu will be reopened, while hospital bed capacity will be increased from 20% to 30% in order to decongest the critical care utilization rate in the region.

Currently, Central Visayas’ COVID-19 bed occupancy rate is at 52%, while the intensive care unit rate is at 38%. – Report from John Aroa / CF – jlo
