DOH asks jails for strict health protocol implementation

The Department of Health (DOH) reminded managements of jails in the country to strictly implement health protocols.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire emphasized the importance of conducting health screening and contact tracing in detention centers in accordance with department memorandum 2020-0217.

“Kapag nagkakaroon ng kaso sa isang closed institution, magkakaroon tayo ng contact tracing diyan, nakakapag-extract ng taong kailangan dalhin sa ospital, ‘yung mga taong kailangang i-isolate (If there is a case in a closed institution, we will have contact tracing, extracting people who must be taken to the hospitals, those who need to be isolated),” she explained.

Vergeire added an inmate with critical condition must be transferred immediately to the nearest hospital. The DOJ has the jurisdiction to validate if a person deprived of liberty (PDL) dies of COVID-19. – Report from Mark Fetalco
