DOH: Circulating alert on Omicron transmission ‘fake’

The Department of Health (DOH) denounced a circulating fake advisory claiming that the Omicron variant can be transmitted in 20 seconds and that reinfection could take place after three weeks.

The DOH said in its response that the claims of the post have no justification as studies on the highly transmissible variant remain ongoing, and that cases vary per individual.

The agency said the transmission is faster without the observance of minimum public health standards, and noted that reinfection is common but is not yet proven to be more severe and fatal.

Dr. Nina Gloriani, a vaccine expert and chair of the country’s Vaccine Expert Panel, said the public must be vigilant on such posts which use official logos of government offices.

“Very scary iyong mga isinulat nila, iyong 20 seconds, mayron pang three weeks, may severe pa. Lahat ‘yon we do not know,” she said. – AG-rir
