DOH: First day of pediatric inoculation successful

By Pearl Gumapos

The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday (Oct. 16) reported that as of 8:00 p.m., a total of 1,151 children have been vaccinated as part of the government’s pediatric inoculation.

“Naging matagumpay ang simula ng vaccination rollout for our pediatric population with comorbidities,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“According to the reports, wala po tayong nai-report na untoward adverse reaction among these [vaccinated] children,” she added.

Meanwhile, Vergeire also said that the National Capital Region is working on helping residents outside the area get vaccinated.

This follows the WHO report that the rise in cases in Metro Manila comes from residents outside NCR.

“Ang daytime population ng Metro Manila ay kaiba sa night time population dahil marami pong trabahador na nanggagaling sa mga karatig probinsya at region. We need to also understand na ito pong ating pagbabakuna ay nira-ramp up na natin,” Vergeire said.

“Ating pong pinagpapatuloy ito pong pagfo-focus sa mga areas outside of NCR and hopefully makakahabol na rin po sila. Ito pong pagtaas ng kaso ay gusto nating mapigilan, especially outside of Metro Manila,” she added.

Vergeire said vaccination is the key to stopping the rise in cases inside and outside NCR. -rir
